The next article brought me by Google Alerts is about a group of volunteers from Pathway Ministries traveled to Venezuela earlier this year to help support a children's orphanage. There were only few people who were going to mission trip, but then there was a lot of interest from people from the church and whole group went to Venezuelan orphanage. The trip sparked so much interest that the church will again send a group to the orphanage in the summer of 2014 to help build a school for Samuel's House.

It is all about how interesting event can provoke people's feelings to contribute to it as in previous situation. Now, I can say that it is very necessary to gather a lot of people in order to start my socially useful program, but the main thing is to create really exciting and bright program then many people would like to contribute to my project.

I've recently read following article that is almost the same as previous one, but the more I read about such thing the more ideas appear in my mind. I find new ways to help to orphanages in my city. One thing I've known from reading those article is even though I don't have enough money, I can still organize charitable events in order to gather things, food, money from my social community.

A West Lothian couple volunteered in Africa and raised £4,500, which they gather from their local community,  for orphanage in Uganda. Their money were spent to built sanitation block for taking shower and toilet. Also people donated pencils and toys to orphans. In addition those children hadn't simple things such as mattresses, it would be great to provide them with such things. Also couple, both are retired teachers...

RSS/Google Alerts - The Power of Information

Hello everyone again. I've recently completed session 4 (GNML), which is RSS and Google Alerts. These are so useful things and I hadn't known about them. Now I'm able to see every new things in my favorite web sites and to set Google Alert to find needed information. As I posted before I'm trying to help orphanage in my city. Therefore I set Alert to find things connected to orphanages and here is article about girls who were collecting shoes for orphans in Nairobi:

Shoe girls collect shoes for orphans in Nairobi

...And so, together with classmates Kelly Eisenschenk, Mary Halonen, Maddie Kinn and Frankie Halter, Miller organized a shoe drive.

“We’re collecting new and gently-used shoes – grade school sizes for boys and girls age zero to 18,” said Eisenschenk.
As a senior project for their honors politics and law class, five Anoka High School students are collecting shoes for Kenyan children living in a Nairobi orphanage. The girls set up collection spots in the high school and at Peterson Shoes in downtown Anoka. They made announcements to classmates on the school’s TV 7 school news broadcast. They hung a shoe drive poster in the cafeteria. They promoted the shoe collection at church, with family and friends and at their parents’ work place.

“We really did everything we could to get word out that we were collecting shoes for the kids,” said Kinn.
At Anoka Middle School for the Arts Fred Moore campus, a teen night event also set the stage for shoe collection, she said.

“Jimmy (Nyembwe) said he’d help us out and he even said he would give us 10 pairs of shoes himself,” Miller said.

Nyembwe is the middle school student learning advocate and shares the students’ passion to help the children of Nairobi, she said.

The collection ends Saturday (Nov. 16) with a last-chance-to-give event staged at Goodrich Field in Anoka from noon to 2 p.m. that day.

“We’ll collect last-minute donations, we’ll have stationary and cards available for people to write a note to the children, we’ll be serving African food, hot chocolate, hot tea, maybe some chai, and invite people to give a donation to help with shipping costs,” Miller said...

Previously, my goal in session #2 was to teach orphans and lead them in order to prevent their bad behavior. Now I can see new things which are very useful to orphans, because orphans are needed in different financial supports in my country too. It would be great idea if I organized any collection events to help orphans. I hope to know more useful things to help the orphan in my city through the Google Alert.

Here is my first project " Social Media for Social Change" in GNML!

Hello everybody. My name is Kanat and I'm from Kyrgyzstan. I like this new assignment in Session2. It made me think deeper about my society. So I could find several issues, but picked one.
There are a lot of orphanages in my country, but I think there are just several numbers of them in my City Bishkek, so orphans live there since childhood till eighteen years. They don't have great care and good education. Many of them become uneducated bullies, they start doing different bad things (like smoking, drinking alcohol, fighting and so on) very early. They will not be able to add something in improving our country in future, that's why it is very important to change their attitude to life, in order to help them and country in general.
I think if those guys would be more educated and little be smarter to realize real life, they would be able to continue they life differently.
I want to gather some initiative students from my future college, who will share the same opinions as me, and start to visit those orphanages with different "presentations". We will organize them little activities and direct them to different courses and additional studies, which are quite a lot in my city, but most of guys just don't know about them.
